Background

The Alexander Technique was discovered by an Australian Frederick Mathias Alexander 1869-1955 and has been taught in the UK for over 100 years.

The technique works through re-establishing the natural relationship between the head, the neck and the back. You can see how well this natural alignment works with young children but can soon go wrong by imitating the slumping habits of their parents or peers and sitting in poorly designed chairs etc. Also in later life our work environments can often lead to repetitive strain type injuries such as frozen shoulder, stiff necks and back pain.

The Alexander Technique offers a way to use our bodies in a freer and lighter way that makes tasks easier and less stressful to perform. Many people hold on to an unnecessary level of tension in their muscles, this can be through overwork, emotional reactions or due to injuries. The Alexander Technique offers a method to help release this tension and return ourselves to a better coordinated and balanced state, allowing us to move with more ease and less effort. Many clients report that learning the Alexander Technique can be life-changing by reducing stress levels and improving their quality of life both mentally and physically.
