Reiki
What is Reiki?
I always find this one hard to explain so I’ve taken these quotes from the UK Reiki Federation website! “The practice of Reiki is an original method of healing, developed by Mikao Usui in Japan early in the 20th century, which is activated by intention. It works on every level, not just the physical. The Japanese word Reiki means ‘Universal Energy’. Eastern medicine has always recognised and worked with this energy, which flows through all living things and is vital to well-being. Known as ‘ki’ in Japan, ‘chi’ in China and ‘prana’ in India. Acupuncture, T’ai chi and Yoga are also based on the free-flow of this energy in a person. Reiki is a non-invasive therapy whose purpose is to treat holistically and to restore homeostasis.
Benefits
Being complementary, Reiki works effectively alongside orthodox healthcare and natural remedies. Reiki encourages and supports positive personal choices, such as improving diet, taking more exercise, devoting time for rest or leisure activities, and may reduce the need for alcohol and tobacco. Engendering greater inner harmony and balance, regular Reiki treatments promote a calmer response to life’s challenges. Reiki can enhance everyday living, and regular sessions may help to promote development of a healthier, more resourceful state of being”. (Equally, I find even just one session can induce a lovely feeling of peace).
What Happens During A Session?
A session is carried out with the client lying down or sitting, in a comfortable and peaceful environment, with calming music in the background. I tend not to use candles as they can trigger migraines/headaches. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki energy passes easily through all materials. You will be snuggled up under a blanket as sometimes I find it can get a bit shivery when lying still for a long time. I then place my hands gently at specific energy points over the body (on top of the blanket). Completely non-invasive. You automatically draw in only as much Reiki as is needed, using it in whatever way is most appropriate for you at the time. Reiki may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations, or nothing at all. Reiki is deeply relaxing and has a profoundly calming effect.
General Note
After any of the above treatments and, indeed with sports massage and reflexology, it is a good idea to rest for a while afterwards and drink plenty of water over the next few days. This helps flush the toxins through the body and can prevent a “healing crisis” headache! Please feel free to give us a call to discuss any of the above treatments.
Fees
Estelle endeavours to treat each client as an individual, therefore the duration of appointments and fees will vary.
Each treatment – either sports massage or holistic therapy includes a detailed consultation, full postural assessment, formation of a treatment plan and after-care suggestions, which can include stretching exercises.
Treatments are therefore based on £40.00 per hour or £27.00 per half hour.
Estelle is willing to do mobile treatments if you cannot make it into the clinic, but unfortunately an additional £10.00 per visit will apply in most circumstances. We will do our best to find an appointment time to suit you at the clinic.
